Sounds of Summer

Sounds of Summer 2016

by Maryssa Beale

Summer is right around the corner and All That Junk has the ultimate playlist for you to enjoy all summer long.

1. The Internet- Get Away

This soul band is known more for its members Syd tha Kid and Matt Martains who are apart of the rap collective Odd Future but this album serves as a reminder that they should be known for more than being apart of Tyler the Creator’s squad.

2. Alicia Keys- In Common

This girl continues her streak of putting out songs that are on fire. If this song is an indicator of the direction her new album will follow then we can’t wait for the rest of the album to be released.

3. Ariana Grande- Side by Side (featuring Nicki Minaj)

Baby Mariah strikes again. Dangerous Woman is a strong album filled with numerous tracks that could easily be on this list including Let Me Love You featuring a verse from Lil’ Wayne. However nothing can top a great feature from Nicki.

4. Christine and the Queens- iT

I can’t think of catchier lyrics that deal with gender identity than the ones you’ll be singing along with in this song. Released a year ago this song was thrown into popularity after being featured in a recent episode of Girls.

5. Miike Snow- Genghis Khan

Comparing your jealously to a ruthless Mongolian warrior and emperor is extreme but as long as long Miike Snow sticks to singing instead of conquering we should be fine.

6. KAYTRANADA- VIVID DREAMS

KAYTRANADA’s debut album, 99.9%, is an accurate title for an album that encompasses a blend of almost every genre. This is our favorite song off the album but every track is worth a listen.

7. Flume- Never Be Like You (Disclosure Remix)

How does one improve upon a Flume track? Add a remix by one of the hottest DJ duo’s out there right now.

8. Pools- Blue

No playlist is complete without a song that doesn’t let you chill and catch your breath for a bit.

9. Santigold- Who Be Lovin’ Me (featuring ILOVEMAKONNEN)

The video for this track was shot during Santigold’s set at Jay-Z’s Made in America festival. The visuals and the song are just pure joy.

10. Rihanna- Consideration

Rihanna‘s Anti is considered to be her best album yet. This track won’t get as much play as Work but it’s her opening track and our closer for a reason.

Honorable Mentions

Cheap Thrills by Sia

Panda by Desiigner

This is What You Came For by Calvin Harris featuring Rihanna

One Dance by Drake

Champagne Problems by Nick Jonas

Sounds of Summer 2015: I’m On A Boat Edition

Sounds Of Summer: I’m On A Boat Edition

by Maryssa Beale

Summer 2015 is fast upon us and we here at All That Junk HK have the ultimate playlist for junk boat partying throughout these hot summer months.

1. Major Lazer- Lean On (feat. MØ and DJ Snake)

With their TV show set to premiere April 12th on FXX, this dancehall inspired trio is gearing up to have a stellar summer and this track serves as the perfect summer anthem.

2. Mark Ronson- Summer Breaking (feat. Kevin Parker)

Ronson’s Uptown Funk will be on most people’s summer playlists but this track featuring Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker is worth a listen.

3. Years & Years- King

You may remember lead singer, Olly Alexander, from his role on Skins but this track proves that he is more than your average singer/actor. Be sure to check out their other track’s including last year’s, Real, which is guaranteed to having you dancing for hours.

4. Jarryd James- Do You Remember

2014 was all about Chet Faker but this year belongs to James. The Melbourne native is on the verge of having a breakthrough summer.

5. Nicki Minaj- Truffle Butter (feat. Drake and Lil Wayne)

Thinking out loud, how disgusted were you when you discovered what truffle butter actually was? Horrifying definitions aside this track has all participants fully committed.

6. Calvin Harris- C.U.B.A

Harris may be an Armani model and allegedly dating Taylor Swift but never forget that he was a musician first. This track is the prime definition of a summer anthem but if C.U.B.A isn’t your speed, Pray to God (feat. HAIM) is a good alternative.

7. Tame Impala- Let It Happen

This 8-minute long track is a preview of the band’s upcoming third album.

8. Warpaint- No Way Out (Redux)

The ladies of Warpaint have been proving that girls can rock since 2009 and this track builds on the momentum of their self-titled debut album released last year.

9. Alabama Shakes- Don’t Wanna Fight

With their second album, Sound and Color, set to be released on April 21, Alabama Shakes are proving that they are not afraid of the dreaded sophomore slump.

10. Shamir- Call It Off

Newcomer Shamir may just have the catchiest song on this list so don’t be surprised if you find yourself singing along to this song long after the track is over.

Beyonce Bonus: 7/11

A summer playlist should be considered incomplete without a track from Mrs. Carter and 7/11 is our pick for summer 2015 junk boat parties across Hong Kong. For those that may be feeling themselves, don’t forget to check out Nicki Minaj’s newest track featuring Queen Bey herself.

Honorable Mentions

Big Sean– Blessings (feat. Drake and Kanye West)
Jamie xx– Gosh
Janelle Monae– Yoga (feat. Jidenna)
Father John Misty– Strange Encounter
Best Coast– California Nights
